The idea for the National Stroke Nursing Forum was first hatched in 2001 at the first Stroke Nurses Conference. It was launched in 2003 and by the end of its first year it had over 200 members.
Since its conception, the NSNF has had representation and forged links with the Intercollegiate Stroke Working Party, the UK Stroke Forum, the Stroke Sentinel National Audit Programme, the Stroke Specific Education Framework, the Stroke Association, and the Royal College of Nursing. The NSNF had representatives on the working party for developing the National Stroke Strategy in 2008.
Looking forward the NSNF aims to work more closely to support its members, providing local networks and opportunities to develop their specialist practice.
