Sofia Macedo Gomes
Thrombectomy and Senior Stroke Nurse in Cambridge
EU nurse with a Masters in Advance Nurse Practice, Sofia came to the UK in 2013. Sofia started to develop her career in a dedicated Hyperacute Stroke Unit in Norfolk, but her passion in Stroke and Neurology comes since early times. Sofia worked as Junior Sister, Stroke Specialist Nurse and as a general adult Nurse in various stroke units across Eastern region, discovering new ways of working. Sofia also worked as a Clinical Lead for Hospital at Night Service and as an Operational Matron in King’s Lynn, which helped her to develop skills in service improvement and management without leaving her projects in Stroke Care. During that time Sofia organised stroke teaching sessions, trained staff and visit the Stroke Services in Frankfurt (Germany) to bring new ideas to develop the services. Currently she works in Cambridge as a Thrombectomy Nurse and collaborates with the stroke research team, does TIA clinics and manage the stroke bleep nurses.
Her interests are in stroke education, developing new ways of working and empowering patients.
