Rachel’s nursing career has involved working in rheumatology, rehabilitation, medicine, surgery and orthopaedics. Her stroke clinical experience is as a ward sister on a stroke rehabilitation unit, specialist nurse, stroke co-ordinator, advanced specialist and consultant nurse. Her current role as Senior Lecturer involves teaching, assessment and curriculum development for post-graduate, pre-registration nursing. Clinical experience includes assessment and management of patients in TIA clinic, and development and coordination of thrombolysis, thrombectomy, direct admission and rehabilitation pathways. Currently, Rachel provides stroke expertise to faculty teams, and actively supports research. Rachel’s interests are in education and training of the workforce, specialist and advanced nursing roles, and service/practice development particularly around clinical pathways, pain assessment and management, continence management, and nutrition. Rachel hopes to inspire nurses to specialise in stroke care and rehabilitation.
